JADIN GOULD

Interview by Michael J. Lee, Executive Editor for RadioFree.com
October 2, 2010

In the iCarly episode "iDon't Want to Fight," the origin story of how Carly and Sam first met was explained through a funny, succinct flashback: Sam helped herself to Carly's tuna sandwich, and when Carly stood up for herself and her lunch, the two girls bonded for life. In that scene, Jadin Gould played the younger version of Miranda Cosgrove's Carly Shay.

Since then, Jadin has been seen guest starring on shows including United States of Tara, The Mentalist, and Chuck. We recently had the opportunity to speak to the young actress, who is now 12, at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre, where she attended the Diamond Edition Blu-ray premiere of Disney's classic masterwork Beauty and the Beast. In this exclusive interview, she took a moment to talk about her experience of working on iCarly and meeting series creator Dan Schneider and cast members Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy, and Jerry Trainor.

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition is now available on Blu-ray/DVD.

RadioFree.com: How was your experience of being part of iCarly?

JADIN: Well, actually, I filmed it on my birthday, and they all sang "Happy Birthday" to me, which was like, one of the best birthdays of my life. [laughs] They all got around and sang happy birthday, and the cast was so sweet. I played Little Carly, and the scene was really funny. I know that when I tried out for it, I was so excited, and it was one of my first projects--so it was really exciting because it was on my birthday, and it was [one of] my first projects.

Auditioning for the role of a younger Carly, were you in a room with a bunch of girls who bore a resemblance to Miranda?

Yeah. They were auditioning Sam as well, so there was a lot. But Dan Schneider said I looked the most like her. It was really pretty funny, because I wouldn't picture myself on iCarly, because I was like 9. [laughs]

What was your impression of the cast after you met them?

They're so kind, they're so funny. Miranda's really down to earth, and she's really sweet. And I know Jennette's really sweet--she's nothing like she is on the show! [laughs] And Jerry, he's funny in real life as well.

You obviously weren't born when Beauty and the Beast first came out, but I'm sure you've already seen it on video, right?

Yeah, I have a million times. It's like one of my favorite movies. I love the lesson that it gives--not to be wicked and not to be superficial, and to care for others. I think that's great.

What aspects of the movie are you looking forward to seeing in a theater?

Probably [that] it's high definition. And all the singing!

Do you have any other favorite Disney films?

Like animation ones? Yeah! Cinderella is one of my favorites.

Thanks for your time, and nice to see you again!

You, too!
